About SABC

We are a Southern Baptist church located at the corner of Preston and Flamborough, on the far northeast side of Pasadena. That means we are just a short drive from Deer Park, anywhere in Pasadena, and even parts of Houston and LaPorte. If you can get to Beltway 8 or Pasadena Fwy 225 quickly, you can get to our church in no time.

While many English speaking congregations have relocated away from the northern part of Pasadena, we have decided to stay. We believe there is still a need for a congregation such as ours in this part of town. We seek to be a lighthouse for the Gospel of Christ both in word and in deed.


We work hard to make sure all guests know they are welcome here. We want to reach out to people from all races and walks of life. Many guests are impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the church.

History

South Avenue Baptist Church, Pasadena, was organized in 1954.  Pasadena's population at that time was 22,438.  The church began in 1953 as a mission, sponsored by First Baptist Church, Pasadena.  The Deepwater community was a small area then with few streets and only one school, populated mostly by young families whose principal breadwinners worked in the petrochemical industry.


There have been many changes in our community.  Pasadena now has a population of almost 150,000 people, and our church has a resident membership of over 500 with a total membership of over 1,400.  Our members come from all parts of Pasadena and Deer Park, and our mission is still to meet the needs of our community.  We call ourselves "A burning lighthouse for a coming Savior."  South Avenue has an especially loving spirit, and we warmly welcome everybody.

The following is the Criteria the members of SABC have requested from our Pastor Search Committee as they begin the long process of finding the Pastor for South Avenue that God has lead to our church:

JOB DESCRIPTION-SENIOR PASTOR

South Avenue Baptist Church

 

The Senior Pastor of South Avenue Baptist Church will provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to its members.  He seeks God’s vision for South Avenue Baptist Church. He will preach the word of God from the pulpit and be a preacher, teacher, and shepherd of the congregation. Additionally, he shall lead in evangelism and discipleship of believers and non-believers in our church and community. He is to supervise and lead in the pastoral care of our members. He is to lead the flock by example through his Christ-like character, personal integrity, and individual discipleship.  The Senior Pastor must have a Masters degree from a Southern Baptist Seminary and 10-20 years of pastoral experience with at least 5-10 years serving as a Senior Pastor. 

 

General Requirements:

·       The Senior Pastor prepares and delivers sermons, leads in the ordinances (baptism and communion) of the church, and oversees the planning of worship services.

·       He has strengths in preaching and leadership with a strong focus on Bible study

·       He will have a leadership vision and a compelling plan for the future of the church

·       The Senior Pastor will work with church leaders / committees in the planning of and evaluation of various church ministries.

·       The Senior Pastor will work with a blended music program
